AUTHOR'S NOTE
-=────────────────────────=-
Finally, after months and months of labouring away. Game testing,
working out bug after bug, I have completed this massive game.
This project has greatly increased my programming skills, and
I hope you enjoy it enough to register. I have spent alot of
my time on this, and I must admit, it was a good experience.
I will certainly be making this an IP game if I get a good
overall response from the public. I would love to see my game
on the top of the game playing charts, and I have done my personal
best to make it a wicked doorgame by my standards. If you need
to contact me, forms of communication are listed below.
Enjoy!
REQUIREMENTS:
------------
At this point in time the only requirements are FILES=10 (or more)
in your config.sys file and ANSI.SYS. A FOSSIL is NOT required to
run the game, although one will be supported if it exists.
Basic Installation and Setup
-=────────────────────────=-
To install Armageddon on your computer follow the steps below:
1. Create a directory on your selected drive in which you plan
to place Armageddon and its files.
Ex. "C:\ARMAGDN"
Type "md C:\ARMAGDN" from the DOS prompt.
2. Copy the ARMAGDN.ZIP package into the new directory.
Ex. Type "copy armagdn.zip c:\armagdn" from the DOS prompt.
3. Unzip the ARMAGDN.ZIP package into that directory.
This is done by changing into the Armageddon directory and
typing "pkunzip armagdn.zip".
Note: You will need an unzipping utility such as PKUNZIP.
The following files should be in the ARMAGDN.ZIP file:
(Note: Some files are created by other files, in which case
they may or may not be in the original archive).
ARMAGDN.DOC - This file. Armageddon documentation.
ARMAGDN.EXE - The main executable.
BACKUP.EXE - Creates data files needed by ARMAGDN.EXE
BADWORDS.DAT - Data for conversion of Bad Language.
CRIER.BAK - Town Crier original data.
DEFEAT1.ANS - Ansi for battle loss.
EXECUTE?.ANS - Execution pics 1-7.
GAME.HLP - The help data for on-line help.
REGISTER.FRM - Registration form.
RUNGAME.BAT - Batch file need to run game. Edit to suit your use.
SETUP.EXE - File to SETUP Armageddon on your system. MUST RUN!
TITLE?.ANS - ANSI title opening screens.
VICTORY1.ANS - ANSI victory picture.
HISTORY.TXT - A brief history of Armageddon.
FILE_ID.DIZ - File Description of Armageddon.
Other files, created by EXE files and not in the .ZIP file
are as follows:
CASTLE.DAT - Castle Data created by BACKUP.EXE.
CRIER.DAT - Current Conversation data created by ARMAGDN.EXE.
ENEMY.DAT - Random enemy encounters. Created by BACKUP.EXE.
EVENTS.DAT - Random events. Created by BACKUP.EXE.
GAME.DAT - Created by ARMAGDN.EXE.
MONUMENT.DAT - Monument data. Created by BACKUP.EXE.
NEWS?.DAT - News for days of week. Created by ARMAGDN.EXE.
NODE?.DAT - Created by SETUP.EXE
PLAYER.DAT - Player data. Created by ARMAGDN.EXE.
SPELLS.DAT - Spell data. Created by ARMAGDN.EXE.
TIME.DAT - Time Data, created by ARMAGDN.EXE.
4. Run the program SETUP.EXE (included in the ZIP package).
This will let you configure your nodes and basic game options.
(Documented further below).
*NOTE* SETUP is not required for local running of the game
other than to set basic options. NODE0.DAT comes included
with the package and Armageddon is ready to run by
just typing ARMAGDN from the command line.
5. Run the program BACKUP.EXE. This will create all the necessary
data files needed for the game to run properly. This step is
a MUST.
6. Create or edit a batch file that will run the game.
Note: The batch file *MUST* switch to the Armageddon directory
and run the game with the proper node.
The batch file should already be there, so you need to change
the Armageddon directory.
Ex.
Batch file should look like this:
CD\ARMAGDN <-- Change this to your Armageddon directory.
ARMAGDN %1 <-- Where %1 is the node number (LEAVE THIS ALONE)
The batch file must be called from your BBS like so:
RUNGAME (then add the switch to put the node number in)
ex. RUNGAME *N (this will run the game with the current
node on some bbs's). If you don't know what the node switch
is, read your BBS documentation.
Also, load it with an extra memory switch to make the game
run smoother and faster.
Ex. /C *C RUNGAME *N *M
SETUP.EXE
-=────────────────────────=-
The SETUP.EXE file should be simple enough to understand. From the
main menu, you are given 5 options:
[S]etup Nodes <-- Do this first.
[G]ame Settings
[R]egister Game
[N]ew Game
[Q]uit
Setup nodes creates NODExx.DAT files (where xx is the node number)
for the ARMAGDN.EXE file. These contain information such as the
BBS Software and Drop File path. Very important.
Setup Nodes: (A MUST for nodes other than LOCAL mode!)
----------------------
Node Number - This is the current node number you are working on.
If you BBS has more than 1 line, you will need to
setup the correct BBS information for each node.
BBS with 1 line, need only setup NODE 1 and NODE 0.
Node 0 is the information for a local game. If you
intend to play local, you will need to set this up,
although you do not need a drop file path or any
valuable information. It just needs to be created.
BBS Name - This is the name of your BBS. Make it a good one <G>.
BBS Software - This is where you choose your BBS software that you
are using. If you are not sure, then select one
that has your drop file name in brackets.
Check your BBS documentation and ask other SYSOPs in
your local area for help.
BBS Path - This option is asking your drop file path. The ARMAGDN
program needs to read the on-line user information from
the drop file so it can recognize the user that is on-
line and other BBS information. In most cases this is
the path to your BBS.
Fossil/Internal/Digital - This is where you specify what fossil
routines the game will run if any. Internal uses your
normal computer routines and works fine on my computer.
Fossil drivers uses any fossil drivers you have enabled
for you BBS, and I have no idea what Digital does.
Locked Port - If you are locking your modem port, then set this to
the baud rate, otherwise leave it at 0. In other games
I've seen setting this value at something other than 0
has messed it up.
Com Port - Set this if your drop file does not contain in, which
it should.
Game Settings
-------------
These are all self-explained within the SETUP.EXE file.
Bad Words
---------
If BAD WORDS are DISALLOWED, public conversation in the TOWN CRIER
will be screened for naughty words. Any found will be converted to
more uh, appropriate text. ;) Feel free to modify/delete/play
around with the BADWORDS.DAT.. Screw your users around by putting
interesting conversions in.. <G>

Currently, I'm 16, turning 17 Nov 4 (birthday presents accepted)!

at night knowing that you have an unregistered version on your system,
and that some poor lad out there is eating kraft-dinner and suffering?
What would your mother think?
I'm just joking.. Nevermind me.. The long hours of programming
have fried my eyes and my brain. <G>

Armageddon, the Game
-=────────────────────────=-
Set in an age where magic thrived and gods and goddesses fought amongst
the clouds, this game captures the riveting legends of fantasy and
brings them to your users for their playing enjoyment. The player
plays a god or godess of a selected deity (Death, War, Peace, Love etc)
and must manage and protect their realm against threatening factors.
As a god (or goddess), the player gains access to magic spells which
can be enhanced by building castle parts. This magic, called mana,
is cruicial in casting spells. The player can gain other player's
spells by making treaties and agreements with them, and thereby
enhancing the game's playability and enjoyment. People are the most
crucial factor to a god, as they provide the support and do the
work that sustains a thriving nation. A god must constantly please
his people and by doing so, can gain the favour of his people, which
in turn increases their production. The people at times may feel
so devoted and supportive of their god, that they erect and create
monuments in honour of them. Each monument has its own unique and
special ability. Crammed with over 100 spells, an easy-to-use
user interface, random-events and monsters, and several options
to make game play more extensive, Armageddon promises to be a
powerful game that will bring your users back for more time and time
again.

Conclusion
-=────────────────────────=-
In conclusion, any help you need with the game, is located inside
the game from the Help (?) menu, which can be accessed from the Main
Menu. I feel the game is self-explanatory, however, if you have
difficulty understanding it, ask other users or sysops for advice
and help on how to play. Half the learning experience comes from
playing the game, that will teach you better than I.
If you enjoy Armageddon, please Register.
Can't find the money?
Ask a donation of a dollar per player (or whatever)
to help contribute to the cost of registering.. Why should you pay
it all yourself?
If I recieve enough registrations and a good response from this game,
I will definately make in InterPlanetary (BBS vs. BBS).
